FULL – Psychoanalysis and Poetry: The Future of a Delusion – Workshop with Cecilia Wu

In this workshop, we will explore the spontaneous poetics of psychoanalysis itself. We will embrace and augment, rather than pathologize and tame, the delusional erotics that undergirds the truth of desiring subjects of the unconscious. We will consider primary texts by Jacques Lacan and Sigmund Freud, alongside texts by Serge LeClaire, Genevieve Morel, Cathy Caruth, Jamieson Webster and others TBA. We will further listen to the bizarrely aphoristic and speculative formulations of psychoanalytic discourse, and the significations of dolor and madness that it traverses, through the ears of poetic others, including Stephane Mallarme, John Ashbery, Leslie Scalapino, James Joyce, and Gertrude Stein. Poetry as the music of future friends will happen along the way as we follow the itineraries of the symptom through a languaging consisting of the “equivocations that history allows to persist (Lacan, 1972, L’Etourdit).”
