Where The Abstract Meets The Street – Brenda Coultas

TUESDAYS 7-9PM: 10 SESSIONS BEGINNING FEBRUARY 8TH

This workshop is an investigation into interior states of the psyche and takes its cue from the physical world. We will look at work that begins with the concrete, maybe objects, bodies or places, and find the intersection where the abstract meets the street. We will contemplate the extinctions of the familiar (disappearance of print or landmarks or species for example) and rise of the replicas (of nature or Coney Island or new media sources). Keep in mind that within our poems anything could happen. Readings include: Jena Osman, Micheal Gizzi, Eleni Sikelianos, David Wolach, Tonya Foster, Marcella Durand, Anne Waldman, and many others.

Brenda Coultas’s most recent book is The Marvelous Bones of Time (Coffee House, 2007).
